Sonic Blast is known to be a run and jump game. It is the last game released for the Sega handheld. The main characters in the plot are Sonic the Hedgehog and Knuckles the Echidna. In this game, Sonic must collect the 5 emeralds located in the different stages. The emeralds can be found in act 2 of each level. If you successfully completed a speak stage in the first act of each level, you will be rewarded with one extra life. The entrance to the special stages is inside the large rings in the normal stages.
For every
enemy that Sonic conquers, he will obtain 100 points. The blue blur can defeat the enemies by jumping on the enemies or rolling into them. For every boss that Sonic conquers, Sonic will gain 1000 points. Sonic Blast allows you to possess more than 100 rings compared to other Game Gear Sonic games. The shorter time you take to complete an act, you will be rewarded with longer time bonus. For every 50,000 points that you earn, you will be rewarded with 1-UP. The time limit to complete each act is 10 minutes. If you take more than 10 minutes, you will die. The screen does not have a visible timer. In each act, there are power-ups that look like monitors. The power-ups are rewards such as Super Ring, Continue Point Speed Shoes, Shield, Robotnik and 1-UP. The Super Ring resembles a ring; it is a combination of 10 rings. The Continue Point returns you to the location of the monitor if you die in the act. The Speed Shoes is a pair of red shoe which can increase the running speed. The Shield resembles an energy dot which will defend you by one hit. The next time an enemy hit you, the shield will be gone but you will still have the rings. Robotnik gives you no reward. The 1-UP looks like Sonic and gives you one extra life.
There is a turnstile at the end of act 1 and act 2 of each stage. The turnstile usually shows a ring. Occasionally, it shows Robotnik, Sonic, Knuckles face and Super Sonic. Players can choose to play as Sonic or Knuckles. The entrance to the special stage in the first and second act of every stage is a special stage.
